Pakistan and Indonesia Relations.

P R E F A C E:
Pakistan has been enjoying warm relations with Indonesia over the
last six decades and attaches a great importance to its relations with
Indonesia. The relations between the two countries have remained
very cordial and continued to grow over the years.
When the Dutch took military action against the Indonesian people,
Pakistan immediately suspended the license of the Dutch airline,
KLM, whose aircraft were being used to aid the Dutch military action
in Indonesia. Pakistan gave full support to the cause of Indonesia
independence and Pakistan celebrated the independence of Indonesia
by making a public holiday on that day.
In the context of uplifting the well being of Muslim Ummah, I believe
it is desirable that Pakistan and Indonesia work together to strengthen
the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). The 57 member
countries of the OIC make up one fifth of the world’s population
providing 70 percent of the world’s energy requirements and 40
percent of global exports of raw materials. The stage is well set for
both countries not only to promote their relationship but also take the
responsibility of leadership of Muslim Ummah.
Both countries also should create close cooperation and take all
necessary measures to contribute towards the international efforts for
combating organized crimes, such as terrorism, smuggling, economic
crimes, illegal weapons trade and other criminal activities, and in this
context establish cooperation between their respective competent
authorities by culminating appropriate arrangements.

Pakistan and Indonesia, two of the major Muslim countries, are
facing similar security challenges. Earlier this year Pakistani
authorities apprehended a number of terrorist suspects, who are
Indonesian nationals, on its soil and handed them over to Indonesia.
Pakistan, Indonesia to boost defence cooperation
Agreed to expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse
fields, particularly in the area of defence. This unanimity of views
emerged during a meeting between Senior Federal Minister for
Defence Rao Sikandar Iqbal and Indonesia Army’s Chief of Staff
Gen Djoke Santoso at the Ministry of Defence.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence, both
sides discussed ways and means to further promote and enhance
military cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
The minister told the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army that
Pakistan and Indonesia enjoyed excellent relations which needed to
be further strengthened by exchange of visits at various levels and
training in each other’s institutions.
The minister briefed Gen Djoke Santoso about the capability of the
defence industry of Pakistan.Gen Djoke Santoso lauded the potential
and defence production capability of Pakistan.
The visiting dignitary told the minister that Indonesia attached great
importance to its relations with Pakistan, and wanted these ties to be
further increased, especially interaction and cooperation between
armed forces of the two brotherly countries.

extending him and his entourage a warm welcome and hospitality
during the visit.
He also thanked the government for providing aid to Indonesia when
tsunami struck the region.
